FAQ
Stolp measures 16,7 x 8 cm so fits 99% of all smartphones. For example, the latest iPhone Pro Max fits inside Stolp.
If you're unsure, you can check out your phone's dimensions online. Make sure to take into account a little extra if you have a case or case-wallet.
Stolp acts as a ‘cage of Faraday’, an enclosure to block electromagnetic fields. The cage, which Stolp is, blocks all signals.
This means you won’t have phone reception, wifi or 3G/4G/5G. No signal comes in, nor out. When Stolp is fully closed, all signals are fully blocked: you're 100% offline.
When Stolp is closed but not fully, the signals aren't blocked. In this modus, you can charge your phone via power cable while you still enjoy the benefit of 'out of sight, out of mind'.
With NFC, you can create automations: if you perform the gesture of holding your phone against the NFC-tag in Stolp, your phone registers the signal and performs a task you've chosen.
Let's clarify that with some examples from our users:
- You come home and hold your phone against Stolp. A message with your chosen text like 'Honey, I'm home' automatically gets sent to your partner, kids, employees,...
- Your phone automatically goes into battery saving mode from the moment it's into Stolp.
Stolp has two built-in NFC tags: one in the handle on top, one inside Stolp for when you put your phone in Stolp. As there are two different tags, you can set up a different automation for each of them: a different automation if you do the gesture of holding your phone above the handle, versus laying your phone away in Stolp.
Setting up the automation needs to be done beforehand on your phone. It works best with an iPhone Xr 11 or higher, as there's passive NFC and it can be easily done in the Apple App 'Shortcuts'. Happy tagging!
Let us know how you use your NFC-tags at hello@stolp.com, we're curious.
Yes, though the sound will be muffled. You might want to turn the volume up if you're a deep sleeper.
Yes, we provided a small opening for your charging cable. However, you will not be able to fully close Stolp while charging and thus you'll receive phone signal.
Unfortunately being 100% offline and charging with a cable, is physically impossible as the cable creates a hole in Stolp through which the phone signal can enter.
We do offer a wireless powerbank in our shop, which allows wire-free charging.
Stolp was originally founded by Julien Yee & Matthias Vanhoutteghem to design iconic products to positively encourage smart phone habits that bring people closer together.
With the mission to have more face-to-face conversations and time well spent in the era of the smartphone, they started out designing for the meeting room with the 'Arena', a product that won both a reddot design award as an IF design award.
In 2020 the world had to rapidly adapt to a new normal, and so did Julien & Matthias. Our meeting product went in lockdown, forcing us back to the drawing board to keep the company afloat.
The result was ‘Stolp’, a product that brought our mission in its purest form. In a year where people spent more time looking at their screen than into each other’s eyes, our story resonated more than ever. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, we quickly sold out our first batch across Europe and beyond. We now continue to grow our brand every day, with new products in the pipeline in addition to the current lineup.
So, we are Stolp. Five letters, straight out of the Dutch dictionary, representing our core product philosophy and celebrating Belgian design. So that's our story! In the meantime, Julien was joined by Caro & Steve, two digital wellbeing-enthusiasts who like to slow down from time to time.

A simple kitchen roll does the trick in most cases. To remove the more stubborn spots we recommend using standard window cleaning product or wet tissues.
Place one finger such as your thumb on the lid provided. Lift the top by placing your free hand around the top. Open.
An alternative way is to use the handle with one hand, and hold the bottom tray with the other.

FAQ
What if I expect an urgent phone call?
Stolp can be used in two modes.
In the first mode, you're fully disconnected & fully offline. No phonecalls, no WhatAapp notification, nothing comes in nor out.
In the second mode, you do not fully close Stolp. That way signal comes in and you can receive that important phone call. Stolp still helps you to disconnect as you're being visually reminded by Stolp to put the phone away from time to time & when it's inside, to not to reach for your phone mindlessly.
Does my phone fit in the Stolp® Phone Box?
Stolp fits most phones. To give you an idea, the iPhone 12 Max Pro fits in Stolp.
If you want to be sure yours fits, the dimensions of Stolp are 16,7 x 8 cm.
Can I charge my phone inside the Stolp?
We offer a product bundle with a custom-made wireless charging unit that seamlessly fits inside the tray of Stolp so you can charge the bottom phone.
You can also decide to charge by cable but this will prevent you from closing the box
Will my alarm clock still work?
Any alarm, reminder or offline feature on your your device will still work and be audible once inside the Faraday cage.
The NFC tag, what is it for?
We've integrated an NFC tag below the '+' on the inside tray. This has the URL to our website for more details but can also be used to set up automations on your phone whenever you place your phone inside.
In case you wan't to disable or change the URL for the NFC tag you will have to install a specific app or use a device to re-write it.
